Garden Clearance Temple — Health and Safety Policy

This Health and Safety policy sets out the commitments of Garden Clearance Temple to protect employees, contractors, clients and the public during garden clearance, waste removal and site tidy work. The purpose of this policy is to define roles, responsibilities and the standard operating approach across our rubbish company service area and broader waste removal territory. It complements legal obligations and reflects best practice for safe working in garden waste and debris clearance.

Our policy applies to all operational activities including garden rubbish clearance, vegetation removal, bulky waste lifting, transport and disposal. It recognises the variable risks posed by manual handling, use of machinery, vehicle movements and encountering hazardous materials during a routine clearance in any waste removal service area. The policy is designed to be practical, proportionate and to support a positive safety culture.

We commit to risk assessment and control as the backbone of safe operations. Each site visit within our rubbish removal service area will be preceded by a documented risk assessment identifying: uneven ground, hidden sharps, asbestos risk, traffic hazards, overhead services and biological risks such as contaminated green waste. Controls will follow the hierarchy of elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Management will ensure that safe systems of work are in place, resources are allocated and that training and supervision are provided. Supervisors and crew leaders have the authority to stop work if a situation presents an immediate risk. All staff and contractors are required to work safely, follow Garden Clearance Temple procedures and report hazards and near misses without delay.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supervisors: site risk assessments, method statements and daily briefings.
• Workers: follow instructions, use PPE, and report hazards.

To reduce exposure to hazards in any waste or garden clearance waste service environment we will ensure: thorough site assessments, safe manual handling procedures, mechanical aids where practicable, and safe use of powered equipment. Specific controls include safe lifting techniques, cordoning dangerous areas, clear signage for the public and maintained first aid provision.

Training and competence are essential. We will provide induction and periodic refresher training on safe systems, manual handling, PPE use, tool safety and emergency response. Records of training and qualifications will be maintained to ensure operatives in the rubbish collection area remain competent for their roles.

Incident reporting and investigation help prevent recurrence. All accidents, incidents and near misses will be recorded, investigated and reviewed. Lessons learned will be reflected in revised procedures and shared across teams operating in the garden rubbish clearance and wider rubbish company service area.

Monitoring and review: regular site inspections, toolbox talks and audits will measure compliance and effectiveness. This policy will be reviewed at least annually or following significant change, incident or legislative update to ensure continual improvement and alignment with current health and safety standards.
